Ronda Riadah 06/2012

Short updates on our Wednesday's session:

We cycled to Anjung, Nusajaya! We were using the same route featured in the earlier post.

Some like Shahriman, Saidan and Suhaimi (3S) started from IRDA office. While the rest - Safuan, Atfina, Afiq and myself, parked our cars near at Muhd Noor's shop Nur Ikhsan Trading.

Our pit stop was of course Anjung for dinner. We had delicious Chinese fried rice (with an affordable price) from Anjung's Yong Tau Fu shop.

We'll update further later.

Ronda Riadah 05.5/2012

Terima kasih kawan-kawan!

Sila gunakan hashtag #irdacyclists di laman sosial seperti Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, dll untuk menunjukkan sokongan anda.

Seperti biasa, komen anda amat dialu-alukan.

Ronda Riadah Makan 05/2012

Another cycling session was held last night. Although the rain was pouring before that, it gradually stopped by the time we were ready for our ride.

This time it was super fun as we welcomed another new member, Norshahfinaz Abu Tazar. We thought she would not make it last night but she came in the end.

To Shahfinaz: welcome aboard, girl! She owns a Merida roadie for quite a while, only that she rarely uses it. Perhaps her roadie could be dust-less from now on. Her performance as the newcomer is not that bad, we would say. We aim to attract more female members of IRDA to join the club.

We also applauded Engku Ahmad Kamel for being able to catch up with the younger troop who left for cycling much earlier than him. Do note he was using the same route as the rest before reaching Dataran Bandaraya JB to join us for light dinner.

Apart from Engku and Shahfinaz, among the members attended this session were: 1. Fadzil Abdul Hamid; 2. Muhamad Saidan Sanib; 3. Suhaimi Mohd Salleh; 4. Iskandar Sabri Rahmat; 5. Emes Mukhris Mohd Mokhtar; 6. Safuan Yusof; 7. Mohd Afiq Ibrahim, and, 8. Nor Azyyati Ismail. Total: 10.

While waiting for Engku, we did our usual deed - pose for the camera

The usual smiley faces of ours with Shahfinaz in pink shirt

Since we have the new member, our chosen route was less complicated though we cycled quite the same distance of 21km like the previous ones with an average speed of 17.63 km/h. The next short term goal that we consensusly have in mind is to achieve at least 20 km/h. More ride outings to be organised for this later on.

The route used was the one from IRDA office (Jln. Skudai) - Jln. Thompson - Kolam Air - Jln. Sg. Chat - Dataran Bandaraya - Jln. Abu Bakar - Jln. Ayer Molek - Jln. Dato Dalam - Jln. Abdullah Ibrahim - Jln. Trus - Persiaran Tun Sri Lanang - back to Jln. Skudai.

We concluded our outing by having a photography session of the new batch of ICC except for Muhammad Saidan Sanib who actually just bought the Scott Sports roadie.

Applause to them

We will continue posting our ICC activities. Do share your thoughts at the provided comment column or shout box.

Ronda Riadah Makan 04/2012

Last night was another weekly session of our Ronda Riadah Makan. We cycled using the new route SS3 (Anjung Nusajaya) with a total of 10 participants, the biggest session ever (more to come).

Emes (already an accomplished cyclist!) is the latest additional to our soon-to-be growing cycling club.   After a few weeks of persuasion attempts, he finally agreed to bring his Giant bicycle from Putrajaya to JB as to solely cycle with us.

  2. Fadzil Abdul Hamid
  3. Mohd Shahriman Mohd Sodari
  4. Muhamad Saidan Sanib
  5. Suhaimi Mohd Salleh
  6. Iskandar Sabri Rahmat
  7. Abd Halim Mohd Nor
  8. Nor Azyyati Ismail
  9. Emes Mukhris Mohd Mokhtar
  10. Mohd Afiq Ibrahim (Azie's fiancé)

According to my trip computer, we cycled a total distance of 21km with an average speed of 19km/h. This time, I used an iPhone application called Cyclemeter - the accuracy is quite astonishing. However, because I neglected to "stop" the clock when we arrived at the destination, the average speed and cycle time became inaccurate. You can view the route yesterday by clicking HERE.
Candid scene when we arrived at Anjung Nusajaya

This time, most of us started from Jalan Rawa, Taman Perling, at Muhd Noor's shop Nur Ikhsan Trading where a few of us bought our bicycles from. Muhd Noor was also planning to cycle last night, but his group planned to start at 9:30pm (we finished our ride at 10pm).

2 of us, namely Shahriman and Saidan, started their ride from our office in Danga Bay. They had to cross an additional 3 bridges (6 if you count the return trip) and that feat certainly deserves our respect. Salute!

The ride last night was a bit more challenging than the previous rides as there were more slopes throughout the route. Nevertheless, we all enjoyed the challenge and ride. The cool night air rushing past through us, hearing the wind whistle, the pedalling through flyovers brings a sense of achievement and bliss for us all!

We will be doing another feature post on another cyclist today, so stay tuned!

ICC Featured Cyclist: Fadzil (BMC)

Since the update on our next cycling journey is next week, we decided to post a feature story on one of our cyclists - the ICC President, Fadzil Abdul Hamid with his brand new bicycle.

His bicycle is a Swiss made BMC Sportelite SE01. The SE01 is a Mountain Bicycle, and it features 3 front chainrings and a 10 sprocket rear cassette for a possible 30 gear ratios.

Fadzil's BMC Bicycle
Shimano Deore shifters and hydraulic brake levers
Bright LED Lighting for a safer night ride
Cateye Rapid 5 for improved rear visibility
Scor seat
Rock Shox XC32 TK fork
Shimano SLX rear derailleur
Continental Race King MTB tyres
SixSixOne Recon helmet
Here is the video recording of the interview session with Fadzil earlier, sharing his experience in cycling. The story of him witnessing his friend crashing behind a taxi, subsequently plunging into the backseat of the taxi is really one of a kind. I mean, who has that kind of experience right?

Iskandar Malaysia has started encouraging its friends and citizens to consider utilising bicycles as a cleaner, greener, and healthier way of getting around the city and residential areas.

We should start asking ourselves, "Why not?". At least, we can help contribute in helping the environment to be more sustainable, and making the world a better place to live. Though it may seem nothing much, a small personal contribution, will definitely make a big difference when start doing it collectively. Additionally, it will also benefit your life by adapting your lifestyle into a healthier one.

The government's support also plays a vital role for the change. Hence, this is why IRDA is initiating its first step towards that, in line with our constantly hailed office slogan - Work Life Balance.

There will be more featured stories about our club members and their bicycles, so please continue to visit our humble blog.

Feel free to drop us your comment. Please also like or retweet us if you like what you're reading.

We are also proud to announce that we have a new cycling buddy in our midst, En. Safuan Yusof! Congratulations on your new Exitway Hybrid Bicycle! Sorry, no picture was taken... But I will publish a picture of En. Safuan, Azie and upcoming member, En. Mohamad bin Sa'elal and their bikes next week (hopefully).

Ronda Riadah Makan 02/2012

EAK delivering the news to our members
Yesterday we had our 1st informal club meeting to announce a few good news to IRDA cyclists. We were all excited and happy with this new piece of information, and we were all in agreement that this is a good time to start being IRDA cyclists. There were several (interim) appointments to the IRDA Cyclists Club yesterday, and the appointments are as such:
  • Interim Adviser :  Engku Ahmad Kamel

  • Interim Marshall 1 :  Mohd Shahriman Mohd Sodari

  • Interim Blogger : Iskandar Sabri Rahmat

After that, the resident IRDA pro cyclist, En. Hilmy Hussain, gave us around of knowledge sharing session of what are the components and parts of the bicycle and other related matters. It was certainly an informative session as most of us are beginners and the knowledge gained is another step towards us becoming cycling experts! Our club's main goal for this year is to cycle to Tanjung Piai by the end of the year!

After everyone agrees to contribute to a centralised bike fund (for food, medical and other club purposes) we all proceeded to change into our bike gear and set out for our 2nd Ronda Riadah Makan for the year 2012!

According to my trip computer, we had cycled a total distance of 15km, with and average speed of 20km/h. The route that we took yesterday can be viewed at this link here: http://soc.li/sQvYhwh (SS2).We had increased the number of participants to 8 this round. The participants yesterday were:

New Cycling Buddy (Halim)

Today, we are pleased to announce that we have a new cycling buddy joining our small cycling group, and it's none other than Mr. Abd Halim Mohd Nor!

What a happy camper he is!
Congratulations to Engku and Fadzil for convincing Halim to join our ranks as a cyclist within a day! What an accomplishment!

Halim will be riding his brand spanking new Silverback bike at our session next week. The chosen route tentatively will be from our office to Bukit Indah through the coastal highway. It is a challenging course for a beginner like us - no fewer than 8 bridges to and from Bukit Indah. However, the thrill of completing the route together and new experiences every week drives us forward together!

Congratulations again to Halim for his new ride and hope you will have a good time cycling together with us!

Ronda Riadah Makan 01/2012

We had a good first outing together as IRDA Cyclists, cycling from our office in Danga Bay to Stulang Laut on Wednesday, 18th April 2012. Our journey didn't start off in the most auspicious time- heavy rainfall  postponed our ride by an hour. However, all of us was eager to ride that day, and we were determined to start as soon as the rain stopped and we were all willing to wait!

Thanks to our patron for the dinner-which was somehow extra delicious as we were all tired from cycling! According to my trip computer, we had cycled a total distance of 20km with an average speed of 17km/h.

For the inaugural IRDA Cyclist outing, we had a total of 5 participants. The first outing participants were:
Engku Ahmad Kamel (The de facto Patron) – Lapierre
Fadzil Abdul Hamid (The de facto President) – Exitway
Suhaimi Mohd Salleh (The official photographer) – Raleigh
Mohd Shahriman Mohd Sodari (The somewhat-pro cyclist) – Scott Sports
Iskandar Sabri Rahmat (The benchmark guy & blogger) – Wilier Triestina

You can view the route that we took on Wednesday at the link here http://soc.li/wmB3TTc. I'll try to use an iPhone app to accurately mark our route and time taken for our future rides.

We plan to cycle together at least once a week, tentatively on every Wednesday and here's hoping that we can get more people to join us next week!
